Capt Ed Walker's Light Tackle Charters

Ed Walker grew up on Indian Rocks Beach on Florida's west coast. He spent his childhood fishing from the famous Indian Rocks Pier, learning how to fish from the pier regulars who taught him how to catch snook, trout, redfish, kingfish, mackerel, sharks, cobia, and tarpon, which would later become his true passion. When the pier was destroyed in 1985 he bought his first boat, a 17 foot Cuda' Craft flats skiff. He attended SPJC, then the University of South Florida while working as a mate under several of the top offshore charterboat captains in the area. After earning his degree he continued to work as a mate and began fishing local tournaments on his own. He became a fixture on the leaderboard of the Suncoast Tarpon Roundup, particularly the light tackle divisions.

Soon he was being asked to take tarpon fishing charters himself. In 1989 he earned his Captains license and became one of very few inshore guides in the Tampa Bay area. He began guiding near home and also on the famed flats of Homosassa in 1989, taking tarpon up to 175 pounds on fly. A few years later he started fishing the Boca Grande area during the months of May and June. In 1994 he guided his clients to his first Boca tournament win, taking the prestigious Millers Marina Tarpon Tide Tournament with a purse of $29,500, and beating out the areas top guides in their own hometown. He now holds records for the largest tarpon ever weighed in a Boca Grande tournament (208 pounds), the largest amount ever won in a single tournament ($247,000), and is the only guide to win 1st, 2nd and a share of third place in the Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce Worlds Richest Tarpon Tournament (98'). His clients have now won more than $350,000 in prize money.
