Welcome to Fly Fishing Key West with Capt. Greg Rahe. Key West is home to some of the finest fly fishing anywhere in the world. Our warm, crystal clear waters make for exciting sight fishing. Coupled with our pristine mangrove waterways and the incredible amount of wildlife: you have the makings of fishing heaven. In my travels around the world, Key West, Florida is the only place I have found where you can literally stand in one spot and have legitimate casts to the Grand Slam species of bonefish, permit, and tarpon. And if that's not enough, while your waiting you can cast to barracuda, sharks, snapper, and the entire jack family. Access to the most pristine fishing grounds is difficult, dangerous, and only accessible by people intimately familiar with the region and equipped with a shallow draft skiff. Largely untouched and unfished, the Florida Keys have the capacity to provide a realistic chance for those anglers seeking species not found in other parts of the world. Key West, the name, is derived from the Spanish, "Cayo Hueso," translated as Island of Bones. Not named on a whim but given by early mariners to describe its treacherous reefs, unforgiving narrow passes, and remoteness for those finding themselves in difficulties. It is these very attributes that have preserved the Florida Keys area, making it a much sought after destination for those in pursuit of the many fly rod species that make this region their home. For those who just want to do battle offshore, your targets can include blackfin tuna, dolphin (mahi-mahi), kingfish, amber jack, and of course sailfish. All of these species are guaranteed to test you and your tackle to the limits and often beyond. After all this, take in the splendor of scenery still recognized as amongst the most breath taking in the world.
