Captain Laurence Ritter offers light tackle and fly fishing charters aboard The D-Seaver, a 25-foot center console, which is docked inside Lynnhaven Inlet only minutes from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. The Bridge Tunnel is a virtual fish magnet stretching 17 miles across the Chesapeake Bay, linking Virginia Beach with Virginia's Eastern Shore. Fishing is mainly done at night under the lights of the Bridge Tunnel where thousands of Striped Bass congregate to feed on baitfish attracted by the bright lights. The Striped Bass population a one point was almost depleted but due to conservation efforts by the state of Virginia and the Marine Fisheries Department the population has exploded and is truly one of the best sport fisheries on the East Coast.
The fishing season is almost year round in the Chesapeake Bay. The fall season is October thru December with a limit of two Striped Bass over 18 inches per person. September and January are incredible months with plenty of fish and no competition. February can be just as good depending on the winter. April is usually another outstanding month. The spring season is from May 1st to June 15th; limits vary but it is usually two fish per person |
