Lauer Marine

We fish inshore of the Montauk-Block Island line for blue fish, striped bass, fluke, flounder, porgies, tautog, little tunny and bonito depending on fish availability (seasonal), time availability (distance from port) and customer preference. We troll with wire line, drift with three way rigs and use bait when appropriate. The light and medium weight spinning tackle is always ready when a surface feeding frenzy develops.

All rods, reels, lures, ice and bait are provided in the charter price. The passenger must pay for any rods lost overboard. Experienced fishermen who prefer using their own gear are welcome to bring it. Due to space limitations the captain may off load Amazing Grace gear to accommodate it. The captain encourages discussion about the target species, locations to be fished, prospects of catching desired fish and gear to be used, both at the time of reservation and just prior to departure.
Our normal hours of business are 9AM to 5PM. We will do early morning and late evening trips. The boat is stored inside each evening, so early departures must be arranged before 5:00 PM the previous evening. We will set up a charter on short notice subject to availability. To be sure of the day and time you want, please book in advance. A deposit of $100 is required to hold a reservation.

We encourage catch and release fishing. We provide photos of your catch in hopes that you will only keep the fish you intend to have mounted or eat.
We have quality rods and reels, spooled with modern small diameter braid line such as Berkley FirelineTM, WhipLashTM or Western Filament T.U.FTM. We carry an assortment of lures from large surface poppers and jigs to peanut bunker and glass eel imitations.

Although passengers in the marine areas are not required to have fishing licenses, everyone on a charter boat must obey the current federal and state regulations. The rules in effect are those of the jurisdiction where the catch is inspected. In the Race, New York rules apply. When we return to the dock in Connecticut, CT rules apply. Season openings and closings, bag limits, minimum lengths and slot limits vary from state to state and even from marine to inland jurisdictions within a state. Further, rules may change during the course of a season. The captain carries copies of the rules on board.

Your fishing success and overall trip experience are important to us. Although the boat is safe, stable and self-draining, there are times when the weather dictates that the boat stay in port. We reserve the right to cancel and reschedule when small craft advisories are posted or if heavy rain is forecast. Advance deposits are refunded if the captain cancels the charter due to weather and no mutually satisfactory reschedule date is available.
